How to Play Rise of the Robots (RotR)

You can probably figure the whole game out without reading any more than this sentence. Here are some helpful tips. Click the links below to see more.

Playing Humans (Huzzah!)

The goal of the humans in RotR is to get 100 troops on the map in order to defeat the robot oppressors. Do it any way that you can.

In order to build a unit you must click on one of the four possible units listed on the right side of the screen.

Units cost a certain amount of funds to make. Each unit is different, and the amount is listed next to the coin symbol for each unit. The amounts of funds that you have available is listed in the top middle of the screen.

Each round (every 30 seconds) you'll get more funds to build humans. Keep building until you win! Note that you can customize how units work. Below is a summary of the customization options.

Note that customizations will only effect newly built units. Old units of the same type will keep whatever features they had when originally built.

Notice that a path appears when you hover over a unit. The path consists of blue and green arrows.

This is the path that the unit will walk after it is built. The green arrows show the loop that will repeatedly be walked until the unit is killed or the game is won. The blue arrows show how the unit will get from the edge of the map to the loop. You can customize this path by clicking on the unit's @ symbol.

Click the @ symbol to reset a units path. You'll then see that all of the entry points on the map start to blink.

Draw a new path by starting on a blinking square and drawing straight line segments. You can make any path that you want as long as it somehow ends back on itself.

Hover over the unit to see the customized path. You can have up to four different customized paths at any one time. One for each unit.

Playing Robots (Arrr!)

Robots play almost the exact same as humans (see the above tutorial); however, the goal of the robots in RotR is to stop a human uprising for 100 years. Do this by setting up robot patrols that'll catch the humans no matter where they are on the map.

There is no difference in how you bulid robots compared to building humans. The features available for the robots are different, and they are summarized below.

Paths and funds are also slightly different for the robots. Instead of paths starting from the edge of the map, robot paths start from any of the walls in the map. Also, robots only get new funds from either killing humans or earning interest on funds that were saved from the previous turn. Humans in comparison get a bulk sum of money each turn.

Time Warp! to Skip Forward or Backward in Game Time

RotR has a special feature called that lets you warp either forward or backward turns as much as you please. It is a great way to replay parts of a game. That includes loading an saved game and warping to where you left off as well as warping around your high scoring game to see how rivals are beating you. The Time Warp! feature is very easy to use. Simply click on the forward and backward time-warp buttons that are on the bottom of the screen.

Note that time warping will never change the outcome of a game. Games always play out the exact same way, e.g. don't expect your human healer to possibly live if you warp forward and backward 100 times. What time warping does is saves you time by letting you warp exactly to where you want to make play changes in your game.

How to Save and Load Your Game

You don't have to lose your game when you are finished playing. In fact, you can save as many different games, as either human or robot, and keep those games on your computers. Each game is a plain text file that you can save in Notepad or a similar text editor.

At any time, click on the button to pause the current game and load the save panel.

The save panel will look like the following screen. Simply copy and paste this text in to Notepad and save it somewhere on your computer.

When you want to load a saved game, start the RotR game, pick either humans or robots appropriately, but wait before clicking . Click on instead. A screen similar to the save screen will appear. Paste your save game in to this screen and it will load your old game! Remember to use the time warp buttons if you want to skip to later parts of the game.
